Chinese lighter makers may have won their anti-dumping case
Chinese lighter makers may have won their anti-dumping case in the European Union after the European Federation of Lighter Manufacturers (EFLM), withdrew its charges against the Chinese products.

Zhou Dahu, president of the Wenzhou lighter manufacturers' association in east China's Zhejiang Province, said the Chinese producers were waiting for official notification of the withdrawal from the EU.

"When the letter arrives, the case will be finished with the victory for the Chinese side," he said.

The anti-dumping case started on June 28, 2002, when the EFLM alleged exports of Chinese-made lighters to the EU violated anti-dumping laws, a charge the Chinese side strongly argued against.

From September to November last year, EU anti-dumping officials traveled to Wenzhou city several times for investigation.

On July 17 this year, the Wenzhou association received a letter from the EU, saying the EFLM had withdrawn its charges on July 14.

"We are expecting the official letter on the withdrawal of the case from the EU," Zhou said.
